In The Name of Beauty
Now that we’re in the thick of fall and I am two months into my maternity leave, I find that I’m enjoying a simpler beauty routine. But just because it’s simple doesn’t mean that it can’t be ~luxurious~.
I was fortunate enough to recently receive the Guerlain Essentials VoxBox on Influenster. I’ve never had the opportunity to try Guerlain products as they are a luxury beauty brand and I tend to use drugstore products on myself and mid range products in my makeup kit. I received the Abeille Royale Fortifying Lotion, L’Essentiel Natural Glow Foundation and the Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic perfume to review, try out and consider.
Here are my thoughts after trying them all out for a little over a week:
The Glow Foundation : I received the shade 01N to try out and i’d say it’s a fairly good match now that i’m losing any sort of sun kissed glow that I may have had this summer (which was not much - I am very pale). To be honest, I haven’t heard a lot about this foundation prior to trying it but let me tell you - wowza! It blends beautifully on the skin and seems to just melt into the complexion. I found it worked best to apply the product with a foundation brush and blend out with a damp sponge.
Guerlain claims that the 97% naturally-derived ingredient foundation should provide a 16 hour glow (perfect for those long set days). While wearing it, I found that it didn’t seem to oxidize and wore beautifully throughout the day. I should note that the times I’ve worn it out, I did not use a primer and lightly set it with a loose translucent powder. Additionally, as we’re in a pandemic, I should mention that the transfer to my black cotton face mask was minimal… such is covid life that I felt to include that as a factor in my recommendation.
The fortifying lotion with royal jelly is inspired by the bees and contains varying types of honey. I found it to be a fast-absorbing water-like toner and gentle on the skin. Products like a toner can take time to notice their effects, so while I believe that it’s been balancing my skin and adding a little glow, i’m unsure if it’s actually been protecting my skin from visible sings of aging, stress and pollution.
At a weighty $90.00 CND, I do think this product would be a lovely addition to someone’s skin care regimen. It has a light fragrance and feels wonderful on the skin - but for $90, you would think it would be in a glass bottle? At least it comes in recycled packaging?
Now the Eau de Toilette Spray came in a beautiful bottle with gold details. It also smelt absolutely ~divine~. Lightly citrus with notes of basil, I found it to be cheerful and perfect for fall. This perfume exudes grace and sophistication. One spritz was enough to enjoy the fragrance and it wore beautifully throughout the day.
Lately, I’ve been wearing perfume at the nape of my neck, right at my hair line, to allow it to interact with the heat of my skin under my hair and allow it to reactivate every time I turn my head or touch my hair. It also let’s the hubs get a fresh inhale of my new signature scent everything he goes in for a hug.
Do you have any luxury fall favs?
Please note, I received these products free from Influenster. All opinions are my own.
